Bush: "Time to Sober Up, People"

I noticed the politics seeping through in each announcement from the Bush Campaign...er, Administration.  Notice the theme both Ridge and Bush are using (do terror alerts need themes or do political campaigns?).

These are from the prepared remarks of both men, on Sunday and Monday.

Ridge on Sunday:  "I certainly realize that this is sobering news, not just about the intent of our enemies, but of their specific plans and a glimpse into their methods. But we must understand that the kind of information available to us today is the result of the President's leadership in the war against terror. The reports that have led to this alert are the result of offensive intelligence and military operations overseas, as well as strong partnerships with our allies around the world, such as Pakistan." http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/interapp/press_release/press_release_0471.xml

Bush on Monday:  "The elevation of the threat level in New York and New Jersey and Washington, D.C. is a serious reminder, a solemn reminder  of the threat we continue to face.http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/08/20040802-2.html

Yes, yes, yes -- we understand -- serious, sobering, solemn leadership in these threatening times...  We got ya.  But who would need to get serious or get sober?  Could it be voters flirting with a vote for Kerry?

Don't get all excited about the Democratic Convention and the Kerry Campaign.  Time to sober up and get serious again -- you're not afraid enough  -- you will not be getting a new president in November, stop kidding yourselves.
